About Alncroft

Alncroft PRT's are owned by Kate and Matt Smith who have both worked and shown dogs for many years. Kate's mum, Michaela Moon is a fundamental partner in the dogs, helping at the shows. Kate and Matt have three young daughters, Jessica, Amélie and Ava who have been brought up surrounded by the family's four-legged members!

Kate was born into animals, she came from a farming background, her first home having been at a racing stables. Many years ago before the Parson Russells, Kate bred, worked and showed Working-type Lakeland and Fell Terriers. Her mum Michaela, based in Warwickshire, comes from an equine background having competed in all the disciplines throughout her life. She has always supported Kate's interest in showing and breeding and spends a good deal of time looking after the dogs and generally helping make it all possible.

Kate started showing in the 80's. Her experience also includes showing her own German Shepherds, American Cocker Spaniels and Welsh Terriers before she started with Parson Russell Terriers. She competed to a high level in handling competitions as a junior and has also handled Boxers, Smooth Fox Terriers and Grand Bleu de Gascogne for other owners. Kate is well-known for the Alne PRT's, from which Alncroft Kennel has descended.

All the dogs at Alncroft are 'employed' on the estate as well as being showdogs and pets. Busy throughout the Summer showing, they particularly look forward to their Winter working season.

Kate is on the PRTC & NPRTC A3 judging list and Matt on the club's B lists.  Kate has judged Parson Russell Terriers and Working-type Lakelands and Fells in the UK, America and Germany. Kate was also the Parson Russell Terrier Breed Note Writer for Dog World Newspaper from 2004 until 2017.  Both Kate & Matt are PRTC & NPRTC committee members.

We regard the health of the breed in general to be of upmost importance therefore all our dogs have been DNA tested (Kennel Club/AHT) for PLL, LOA and SCA.

Our daughters Jessica & Amelie have enjoyed wonderful success in the showring, Jessica having handled Sadie (Ch Alncroft I Spy) to the PRT CC record in 2016! She was also one of the youngest ever handlers at 6 years of age in the UK to be awarded a CC (Challenge Certificate) with her beloved Zara - Ch Alncroft in Gold!  Amelie won her first CC aged 8 in 2017 with her Mini Wire Dachshund Ch Drakesleat Prim n'Proper for Alncroft and she has since gone onto making her up to champion! Jessica and Amélie are also both keen Junior Handling show and agility competitors both having qualified for the Young Kennel Club (YKC) handling finals at Crufts every year since they were old enough to compete at 6 years old! Jessica won the semi-finals of the JHA competition at National Gundog in 2018 with the beautiful Flat-coated Retriever; Ch Woodfynch Hydra!  They both love handling other breeds and have enjoyed handling Flatcoated Retrievers, Soft-Coated Wheaton Terriers, Jack Russell Terriers, Pointers, Borzoi, Siberian Huskies amongst others!

We are members of the Parson Russell Terrier Club and the Northern PRTC.
